                  The Reese Family

On Wednesday, May 22nd, the Family Selection Approval Team of CHfH approved Denise Reese as a "Partner Family" for 2002. Denise, her 6 year old son and Denises 79-year old mother will be building a home at 288 Mohawk Street in the Over the Rhine Neighborhood of Cincinnati. Their home is sponsored by Citigroup, with project leadership provided by Deerfield Construction.

Denise and her 6-year old son Denzel Reese currently live in a two-bedroom apartment in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati. Denise has been in the same apartment complex for 11 years. The apartment is quite small and is in need of numerous minor repairs. The upstairs apartment has a leak that has resulted in the ceiling being patched over numerous times while the leak remains. Denise explained the poor insulation in winter has caused very high utility bills even though the apartment is not kept comfortably warm. Denise has lacked the space necessary to have her ailing mother move in with her, so she can better take care of her. Her desire is to build and purchase a home with Cincinnati Habitat to provide her child a home of his own and, more importantly, the space needed so Denises mother may move in with her family.

Denise has worked for the United Parcel Service (UPS) since 1989. Denise said she has always dreamed of having and living in a house of her own. Denise said both her and her son would benefit greatly if they had a home where her son could play comfortably, there would be a yard for gardening and they would both be proud to have friends and family come to their home.

Denise Reese will buy a single family, two-story, three- bedroom home from CHfH. The house will be located at 288 Mohawk Street in the Over the Rhine Neighborhood of Cincinnati. Denise has committed to investing 500 hours of sweat equity labor during the five-month construction of her home. When completed, she will buy her home for approximately $59,000 with a 0% interest free loan payable to CHfH over 20 years, at a cost of about $350.00 per month (including closing costs, taxes and insurance).

After her home is completed and purchased, Denise will finally have that yard she has dreamed of, space enough for her son and her mother, and a house that the entire family can be proud to call their very own home.
